What I did at
Astroworld |
I started as a temporary tattoo and caricature artist for an outside vender in the summer of ‘86. By mid summer, I was invited to move over into the newly-formed and short-lived Special Promotion Department, which was made up of several former Hanna-Barbara Land performers/employees. We performed as costumed characters in short stage shows (e.g. GI Joe, He-Man, My Little Pony and Rainbow Bright) in the kids section (whatever that was called then…can’t remember) and later, on the stage in front of the all-but-abandoned Needle. In between productions, I was able to get more hours as a game attendant in Nottingham Village and we were all given opportunities to help with crowd control for any and all Southern Star concerts. After my last summer season with Special Promotions in ’88, I also worked crowd control for Freight Fest and Holiday in the Park (not in costume). The following summer, I returned with a video production company that helped coordinate several “music festival weekends” where lesser known bands performed throughout the park (Showcase, Lagoon, Needle). |
What I want to
share with you. |
The Judy’s at the Showcase…all summer. Dinner with Depeche Mode at the Cantina. Fifteen (15) turns on the Looping Starship!!!! Countless rides on Texas Cyclone. Employee parties at the pavilion. Split-second of TV time on an ’87 commercial. Voiceover recording sessions at the Magic 102 studios. Hangin out with the 93Q staff at VideoCity Live tapings. |
