Hello All! Does anyone know where the Astroway is going to? I suggest they set it up in San Antonio, Fiesta Texas.

Canada but another post has stated that the Astroway isn't going to La Ronde.. They are scrapping it and sending the parts to other rides that have an astroway.

My understanding is that it cannot be reinstalled due to federal safety regulations. It has something to do with the grips on the gondolas that grip the cable. Since there were two fatal accidents in the 1970's (State Fair of Texas, Six Flags over St. Louis) fairly close together, the regulations changed. Although existing systems such as SFAW were "granfathered" in, once they shut down, they either have to be updated (at considerable expense) or removed. In the case of the Astroway, it appears that due to the age of the ride, it will be dismantled and used for spare parts at the other Six Flags parks that have the VonRoll 101 rides (most noteable SFoG and SFStL).

SFStl took the SkyWay down here after the accident in 1980. So, the parts would not do much good here in St. Louis. The only Six Flags park left with VonRoll Sky Rides that I know of are Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey and Six Flags Over Georgia.

Six Flags Over Mid-America's skyway was modified and reopened for a while following the accident. It wasn't until later that the decision to remove it came down.
Six Flags New England also has a small Von Roll skyride. With the loss of Astroworld, I guess we are down to only three Six Flags parks having Von Roll skyrides.
