(from sixflagshouston.com)

THE FOLLOWING IS A LIST OF THE RIDES AND PRICES THEY WERE SOLD FOR AT THIS MORNING'S AUCTION. Some of the rides did not meet the reserve
VIPER--$8000...did not meet reserve price
GREASED LIGHTNING $8000..did not meet reserve price.
BARNSTORMER--$5000
XLR8--$7000..did not meet the reserve price.
MYAN MINDBENDER $9000...did not meet the reserve price.
LOOPING STARSHIP $17,000
GUNSLINGER $23000
SERPENT (TRACK ONLY) $4000
Bidders who won the auction, but did not meet the reserve price still have the option to buy the ride for the reserve price. If they choose not to buy the ride, it will be sold privately.

On Feb 3rd the Greezed Lighting was sold This was told by a lady that said she was second in charge at the auction. Her name eludes me right now.

She also said that someone offered 50,000.00 for XLR-8 Greezed Lighting and another ride.

Here is another kick in the pants AstroWorld had  4 possible new rides that never taken place 1 featured the Flintstone theme and a wooden Rollercoaster with a loop.  2 under the XLR-8  would have been a ride simular to River of no return. 3 would have been some kind of maze. and the was a 4th as well.

Here was a thought to bring revenues up for Astroworld They Should have removed waterworld Since they already had Splash town now you freed up 13 arces   remove Southern Star  and extra 2 acres and there was the enterance to waterworld infront of Cyclone another 3 acres more than ample room to build on. the private bridge owned by Astroworld was overly engineered to the point it could support a monorail system to take ppl to and from the Astrodome parking lot.  And since SixFlags New Orleans was destroyed by the ever so greatful  Katrina in which case It is still Closed Could have Kept AstroWorld still open till the can open make repairs to N.O.

How does a 7th ranked Park get closed ?????

Sour grapes.  The owners just didn't want to battle with the owners of the Dome anymore.  So, instead of trying to work things out, they simply pulled the plug.  The park apparently hadn't been doing well for the last several seasons according to what I'd heard.  Likely, however, because it hadn't been maintained properly.

There were plenty of reasons to keep the park open, but SF just didn't want to be bothered.  In fact, they probably could have sold the park as a whole to another chain (Paramount or someone else) who would keep it open.  Let's just hope that whatever gets put on that land is worth it.  It's sad to see a park close, but SF was just too sour over the whole thing.

If people were interested in the rides, it seems to me someone would have been interested in the park as a whole.

Although, considering what they did to Astroworld, it wouldn't surprise me if they did it to a few more parks before it was all over.  So, if I were an employee at any of the other SF parks, I'd be worried... especially if the park attendance has been off for several seasons.

I can think of a list of things they could have done differently than let us suffer the lose of AstroWorld.

I'm sorry if this has already been discussed in another thread.  If so just point me in the right direction.

Anyway, this is what RCDB says about Greezed Lightnin' and Mayan Mindbender

What about Viper?

I grew up going to AW from the time I was 2 until the 80s when I graduated from high school.  I now live in Lubbock and am thrilled that we will be giving GL a home.  Joyland is a great family park and will enjoy having a new coaster!
